![]() Peter H. SmythPresident and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Smyth joined Greater Media in 1986 as General Manager of WMJX-FM in Boston, and was appointed Vice President/General Manager the following year. He was subsequently promoted to the positions of Senior Vice President/Regional General Manager, Group Vice President of Radio, and Chief Operating Officer. In October 2000, Mr. Smyth was named President and Chief Operating Officer, and in March 2002, was promoted to Greater Media’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He began his broadcasting career in 1977 as an account executive with WROR-FM in Boston, where Mr. Smyth quickly attained the position of Local Sales Manager. In 1978, he was promoted to General Sales Manager, a responsibility he held for five years until RKO General, parent company of WROR, recruited him to direct the sales operations of its New York stations. Mr. Smyth served as General Sales Manager at legendary station WOR in New York until his departure in 1986 to work for Greater Media. Radio Ink Magazine selected him as “America’s Best Broadcaster” in 2005. In addition, the publication has featured him as one of the 40 "Most Powerful People in Radio" in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He was named "Radio Executive of the Year" by the publication in 2007. In April of 2007, Mr. Smyth received the "Humanitarian of the Year" award from the 100 Club of Massachusetts. Mr. Smyth is currently serving a two year term as the Chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau's Board of Directors. In addition, he is on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters and is a member of the HD Digital Alliance Oversight Committee. Mr. Smyth is also a past president of the New England Media Association. On a community level, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New England Baptist Hospital and the Police Athletic League. Mr. Smyth is a past member of the Board of Trustees of Emerson College and the United Way of Massachusetts. In May of 2007, he received the "Humanitarian of the Year" Award from the Hundred Club of Massachusetts. Mr. Smyth is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. |
Edward R. Nolan, Jr.Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Nolan joined Greater Media in August 1989 as head of the corporate Internal Audit Department. He was promoted to Cable Division Controller in November 1993, and was appointed Vice President-Finance for Greater Media’s Cable Division in December 1997. Upon the sale of the Cable Division in June 1999, he was appointed the company’s Vice President-Business Operations. In April 2003, he was promoted to his current position. Before joining Greater Media, Mr. Nolan was employed for three years as an Internal Audit Manager for Home Life Insurance Company. Prior to that, he spent six years with several certified public accounting firms. Mr. Nolan serves on the Board of Directors of the Broadcast and Cable Financial Management Association. He is also actively involved with the Radio Music Licensing Committee and the Radio Advertising Board's Radio EDI Taskforce. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Nolan received his B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce in 1980 with a major in accounting. |
Ellen J. RubinVice President and General Counsel Ms. Rubin joined Greater Media as General Counsel in June 2003. She was promoted to VP & General Counsel in February 2007. Prior to that, she served as a corporate attorney with Hill & Barlow, a Boston law firm. Ms Rubin received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Harvard College. She is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT), and the Association of Corporate Counsel. |
Richard D. FeinblattSenior Vice President, Radio Rick Feinblatt is Vice President of Radio at Greater Media, Inc. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Feinblatt entered the radio business as an Account Executive for WMMR (then owned by Metromedia). HE was named General Sales Manager of the station when it was acquired by Greater Media in April 1997 and was subsequently promoted to Director of Sales for all of Greater Media Philadelphia properties (including WPEN, WMGK, WMMR and WFLN). In January 1999, Mr. Feinblatt was named Senior Vice President/General Manager of the Philadelphia cluster. He assumed the additional responsibilities of Vice President of Radio for all of Greater Media radio properties in 2001, before moving into the position full-time in January 2004. Mr. Feinblatt currently serves on the Associated Press Broadcast Advisory Board. |
Milford K. SmithVice President, Radio Engineering Mr. Smith is Vice President of Radio Engineering, a position he has held for the past 19 years. For the preceding 11 years he held a similar position with First Media Corporation, another large radio group owner. Prior to that, he spent several years with Tribune Broadcasting in New York as Assistant Chief Engineer of their radio and television stations. In March of 2005, Mr. Smith was chosen to receive the prestigious Radio Engineering Achievement Award from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). The award, first established in1959, is given to individuals for their significant contributions which have advanced the state of the art of broadcast engineering. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEEE), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), the National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) and the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE). As a member of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Mr. Smith is active in the NAB Engineering Conference Committee, the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) technical advisory group, the Spectrum Task Force, and the AM directional antenna ad hoc committee. He is likewise active in the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC), serving on its DAB test guidelines and evaluation working groups, and is chairman of its DAB subcommittee, which is currently involved in the evaluation of what will be the next generation of digital radio service for the United States. Mr. Smith holds a B.S. degree in physics from Amherst. |
Joseph McKevitzCorporate Controller Mr. McKevitz joined Greater Media’s Cable Television Division in 1989, holding a number of positions within that division before eventually becoming Assistant Controller in 1994. When the Cable Division was sold in 1999, he joined Greater Media’s Printing and Publishing Division as Controller. One year later, in 2000, he was promoted to his present position of Corporate Controller. Prior to working with Greater Media, Mr. McKevitz spent three years as an auditor with Peat Marwick in Detroit. He earned an M.B.A., with a concentration in finance and accounting, from the University of Michigan in 1986. |
Calvin Lyles, Jr.Radio Division Controller Mr. Lyles has been the Controller for Greater Media’s Radio Division since February 2001. He joined Greater Media, Inc. in 1994 and since that time has served in various capacities including Corporate Senior Accountant and Business Manager of the Detroit radio cluster. During his tenure as Business Manager, responsibilities were heavily centered on financial systems and the importance of the sales force, traffic department and business department working together harmoniously. Mr. Lyles is a member of the Broadcast and Cable Financial Management Association and serves on its Radio committee. Through his participation with the BCFM, he has moderated and participated on many industry panel discussions. In 2008, the BCFM honored him with the “Working Capital Award”. An award which recognizes members who have given extensively of their time to help the Association produce educational sessions for conferences, seminars and/or materials for articles or chapters for publication. Mr. Lyles is a contributing author of a chapter to the Second Edition of Understanding Broadcast and Cable Finance – A Primer for the Nonfinancial Managers. He has also participated in many other Radio Industry committee groups. Mr. Lyles holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Merrimack College. |
Heidi A. RaphaelVice President of Corporate Communications Ms. Raphael joined Greater Media in 1996 as Marketing Director of WRIF-FM in Detroit, Michigan. She was subsequently promoted to Director of Group Marketing for Greater Media Detroit, overseeing the combined marketing efforts for WRIF, WCSX and WMGC-FM. In January of 1999, she developed a non-traditional revenue department for WGRV-FM, which later became WMGC-FM. In January 2005, Ms. Raphael was promoted to Director of Corporate Communications for Greater Media, Inc. She was named Vice President of Corporate Communications in February 2008. Ms. Raphael was recognized among the "50 Most Influential Women in Radio" by Radio Ink Magazine in 2006 and 2007. Ms. Raphael currently serves as President/Spokesperson of the Mentoring & Inspiring Women (MIW) Radio Group. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Trustees of Medaille College, located in Buffalo, New York. Ms. Raphael is also a current member and past Vice President of the Nashville Chapter of American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT). In 2002, she was named "Mentor of the Year" by the Monroe Children's Home in Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Raphael received her Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Medaille College in Buffalo, New York. |
Buzz KnightVice President - Program Development Buzz Knight is the Vice President of Program Development for Greater Media, Inc. In his role, Mr. Knight is responsible for developing innovative content and formats, enhancing the company's current formats, identifying new talent and developing Greater Media's HD-2 programming. HE also serves as an advisor for all Greater Media's rock-based stations and oversees local programming as Operations Manager for Boston's WROR-FM and WBOS-FM as well as Philadelphia's WMGK-FM and WMMR-FM. Mr. Knight has been with Greater Media since February 2002. Prior to that, he worked as Program Director at several stations including Boston-based WZLX-FM, Saga Communications' WNOR-RM in Norfolk, Va. and Great American's Active Rock station, WLVQ-FM, in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, he spent 3 years as part of the WNEW-FM on-air staff in New York. Mr. Knight launched his broadcasting career at WRKI in Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was named among 2007's "Best Programmers" by Radio Ink Magazine. Mr. Knight currently serves on programming subcommittee of the National Association of Broadcasters(NAB). |
