This Thursday, The ‘Dark Side of Oz’ Comes To Clark Park

July 7, 2014

Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK-FM & Awesome Fest present a free screening of the ‘classic rock curiosity’ that many refer to as ‘The Dark Side of Oz’, this Thursday, July 10 at University City’s Clark Park. Pink Floyd’s record breaking album ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ will be synced up to the movie ‘Wizard Of Oz’ and shown on a huge 30-foot outdoor screen revealing the astonishing coincidences that occur at least twenty times during the movie when the album’s sounds, music and lyrical content seem to match what is taking place on screen.

The ‘Dark Side’ meets ‘Oz’ phenomenon caught the public interest in the mid-90’s, spawning tons of online discussion groups, as well as websites, specifically designed to chronicle and expound upon the uncanny coincidences that occur.  Although the members of Pink Floyd have stated that they never had any intent to match up their album’s content with the movie, the interesting coincidences still remain and will be on display this Thursday.
WMGK’s midday DJ, Debbi Calton (weekdays 9a-2p) will introduce film at 9pm but attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy fine fare from local food trucks and free WMGK giveaways.  Attendees can bring a lawn chair or sit on the astroturf that will be laid out.

News Talk 1110 WBT’s Peanut Butter N’ July

July 2, 2014

For the third year, John Hancock, 3pm – 6p on News Talk 1110, WBT, along with Harris Teeter and Jif have teamed up for Peanut Butter N’ July to help benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina this summer.

High on protein, peanut butter is one of the most valuable commodities for a food bank and is one of the most requested items for those who benefit from their services.  This summer, in preparation of this need, WBT has launched a campaign to bring attention to the importance of this product.

Beginning July 1st, look for donation bins set up at 37 participating Harris Teeter Stores throughout Mecklenburg County and around the Charlotte area and stop by to donate a plastic jar of fresh unopened peanut butter.  Each Saturday during July, John Hancock will be on hand at one of the participating stores helping to collect peanut butter and spreading the word about the cause.
Join John Hancock and other WBT personalities at the following locations:

Saturday, July 5th        10am – 12pm: Matthews: 1811 Matthews Township Pkwy
