The 10th Annual 102.9 WMGK Classic Rock Art Show and Sale will officially open on Wednesday March 24 at The King of Prussia Mall on the lower level of The Plaza in Philadelphia. The show will run through Sunday April 18, 2010. This year’s show features the largest collection of pieces in the show’s history. and feature more live guests than previous years.

Badfinger guitarist, Joey Molland, will be making a special appearance at the show this Sunday, March 27th, between Noon and 2pm. Molland will be playing the Sellersville Theater later that evening. In addition, WMGK Afternoon DJ, Andre Gardner, will be making an appearance at the exhibit this Sunday between Noon and 2pm. Gardner will be conducting his “Magical Beatles Art History Tour”, a tour of all of the Beatles related art in the exhibit. During the tour, the on-air personality will explain it’s historical significance and provide his own commentary. Gardner is widely known for his love and knowledge of The Beatles. He hosts the station’s Beatles Break and Breakfast With The Beatles features on the radio station.

In addition, Gardner will also take center stage this Friday, March 26th from 2 to 7pm, where he’ll be broadcasting his show live from inside the art space. While there, Gardner be joined by a few world renowned artists and photographers who will also be appearing inside the exhibit throughout the weekend.

Friday 3/26 & Saturday 3/27 – Shannon, Official Beatles artist of Liverpool – live painting.

Friday 3/26 – Sunday 3/ 28 – Circus Magazine staff photographer and personal
photographer of Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne, Mark Weiss

Friday 3/26 – Sunday 3/ 28 – Beatles animator Ron Campbell (Yellow Submarine, Saturday
Morning Beatles, RugRats, Scooby Doo, Smurfs), will answer questions, sign autographs.

Classic rock fans will be able to view and purchase photographs, paintings and drawings featuring Rock legends from A to Z, or Aerosmith to ZZ Top. The prices of the artwork range from as low as $5 to as high at $10,000. Admission to the show is FREE. A portion of the sales made during the show will go to this year’s charity, Little Steven Van Zandt’s Rock N Roll Forever Foundation.

Each year, the station adds new additions to the exhibit. This year’s show boasts even more new additions than usual. Some of the notable new pieces include: artwork created by The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood and Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia. Wood’s paintings depict Jim Morrison, U2′s The Edge, Mick Jagger and others. There will also be hand signed artwork from John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr that will be new to the Classic Rock Art Show.

All of these pieces will join the show’s impressive collection of paintings and drawings created by rock stars such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Jim Hendrix; amazing photos of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Bruce Springsteen; Beatles animation art; gold records and concert tour posters.

This year’s 100% charity, 100% local Silent Auction section in the exhibit will be comprised of drawings and photographs by area artists/photographers. The section will include pieces that feature The Beatles, The Police, David Bowie, Bono, Eddie Van Halen, The Rolling Stones and more. 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will go to Little Steven” Van Zandt’s Rock N Roll Forever Foundation .

The Rock N Roll Forever Foundation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) created in 2007 by Little Steven Van Zandt. Little Steven’s Rock and Roll High School (LSRRHS) is the Foundation’s national middle and high school curriculum initiative. The LSRRHS program is geared toward national and state standards and is interdisciplinary in scope. It’s curriculum will feature a forty-chapter History of Rock and Roll, written by famous authors, that will provide the basis for over fifty lesson plans, teacher guides, and supporting audio and video materials. The aforementioned will be provided free to interested schools and will be available online for the general public. Van Zandt plays guitar in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, played the role of Silvio Dante in The Sopranos, and hosts Little Steven’s Underground Garage nationally syndicated radio show (Sunday nights from 10-Midnight on 102.9 WMGK).

The hours of the WMGK Classic Rock Art Show are: Monday through Saturday 10am to 9pm; Sunday 11am to 6pm.
