March 7, 2016
Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK-FM’s huge summer party, MGK’s Big Gig, returns on Sunday, June 12 at BB&T Pavilion. This year’s line-up features two rock icons that have sold tens of millions of records and penned plenty of rock ‘classics’ between them. British rock legends, Bad Company and Eagles guitarist/solo superstar Joe Walsh will bring their decades of showmanship and mountain of hit songs to the radio station’s annual outdoor bash. British singer, songwriter and recording artist, Steve Rodgers (son of Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers), will play an acoustic set and WMGK’s House Band, Tommy Froelich Trio (from Coatesville, PA), will also be on the bill.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 11 at Noon via Ticketmaster.com, the Live Nation box office, the BB&T Pavilion box office, Ticketmaster outlets, or by calling 800-745-3000. This weekend only, lawn tickets are just $10.29. A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit local veterans via the Philadelphia Multi-Service Center.
The MGK air staff will host the festivities. From the moment the doors open at 6:00pm until the last note, there will be plenty of activities for concert goers to engage in.
I had always hoped that we would do something together and so here we are 30 years later finally touring together”, Bad Company lead singer Paul Rodgers commented. “There is only one Joe Walsh, he is such a unique person and an uber talented singer, songwriter and musician.”
“I have a huge amount of respect for Paul of course and the band and we get along great,” added Walsh. “Paul and I agreed it would be a hell of an evening of music, one that will be memorable for everyone who comes, and memorable for us, and that’s important in this day and age.”
England’s Bad Company has put its indelible stamp on rock ‘n’ roll with a straight-ahead, no-frills musical approach that has resulted in the creation of some of the most timeless rock anthems ever including: “Bad Company”, “Can’t Get Enough”, “Rock N Roll Fantasy”, “Shooting Star”, and “Feel Like Makin’ Love”. The band consists of incomparable singer and songwriter Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke (drums, percussion) and Mick Ralphs (guitars, keyboards). Howard Leese (guitar) and Todd Ronning (bass) round out the current touring line-up. Bad Company will be making some announcements in the coming weeks about several new projects they have in the works including a classic live album release.
Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter, Joe Walsh, has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success as a current member of The Eagles, as a solo artist and in the bands James Gang, Barnstorm, The Party Boys, and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. He’s responsible for hit songs such as “Rocky Mountain Way,” “Walk Away,” “Life’s Been Good To Me So Far,” “Funk 49,” “Life In The Fast Lane”. He also authored one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time (the solo in The Eagles ‘Hotel California’) and counts guitar ‘gods’ Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend among his biggest fans. Performing with Joe Walsh will be some of his backing band members from his record-setting solo Walsh Tour 2015, including Joe Vitale, his Barnstorm bandmate on drums and adding Chad Cromwell on drums; Waddy Wachtel on guitar; Larry Young on bass and Jimmy Wallace on keyboards. Leslie Fuller, Connie Jackson, Windy Wagner and Rickey Washington will be background singers and Clayton Janes on samples.
