WMGK-FM’s Rock n’ Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive Comes Back Strong
December 21, 2015
Philadelphia’s 102.9 WMGK hosted the return of the Rock n’ Roll Up Your Sleeve blood drive in May of 2015. The goal of the event was for MGK listeners to come together with the MGK air staff, and give blood, which was collected by the Red Cross. The almost annual event came back strong, with a cool new location and some great donor benefits.
This year’s blood drive was held at the Adventure Aquarium, located along the Camden, NJ, waterfront. Donors were treated to listening to their favorite Classic Rock music, bumping elbows with the MGK air staff, and even visits from hippos, fish and penguins, all while enjoying a great view of the sharks in one of the main tanks. As the listeners completed their donations, they received a special blood drive T-shirt, and tickets to return to the aquarium at a later date to enjoy everything that Adventure Aquarium has to offer.
Every blood drive has a limit on how many donors may be accommodated, and the Rock n’ Roll Up Your Sleeve drive was completely booked. All time slots were filled by MGK listeners more than a month before the event, and the blood drive surpassed all expectations. By the end of the drive, more than 400 MGK listeners arrived to donate, and the Red Cross received 68 units of blood over the goal, making this a great day for the Red Cross, and the most successful MGK blood drive to date.
