Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK-FM is throwing a huge party on September 5th at Susquehanna Bank Center to wrap up what will be an exceptional summer concert season in the Philadelphia area.  The party, dubbed WMGK’s Big Gig, will feature two bands that have each sold over 40 million records – blues rock virtuoso, Steve Miller Band and melodic chart toppers, The Doobie Brothers.  WMGK’s House Band, Work Release (from Valley Forge, PA), will kick off the festivities.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 8 at Noon via Ticketmaster.com, the Live Nation box office, the Susquehanna Bank Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, or by calling 800-745-3000.  This weekend only, lawn tickets are just $10.29.  Children under nine years of age will be admitted free with parents holding lawn tickets.  A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit local veterans via the Philadelphia Multi-Service Center.

The MGK air staff will host the festivities.  From the moment the doors open at 5:00pm until the last note, there will be plenty of activities for concert goers to engage in.  In addition, members of our nation’s military will be honored on and off stage throughout the event.

One of rock music’s all-time greats, the Steve Miller Band has sold more than 40 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. Miller’s trademark blues-rock sound made him one of the key artists in classic rock radio.  His impeccable catalog of hits includes: “Fly Like an Eagle”, “Take the Money and Run”, “Rock’n Me”, “The Joker”, “Jungle Love”, “Swingtown” and “Jet Airliner”.

The Doobie Brothers propulsive roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven style draws from virtually every imaginable tributary of American music. The band has sold over 40 million albums, thanks in part to huge hit songs such as:  “Black Water”, “What A Fool Believes”,  “Jesus Is Just All Right”, “Rockin’ Down the Highway”, “Long Train Runnin’”, “China Grove” and “Takin’ it to the Streets”. The band’s current line-up features founding members Patrick Simmons (Vocals/Guitar) & Tom Johnston (Vocals/Guitar) as well as John McFee (Guitar/Strings/Vocals).
