The 4th annual Tip A Tiger charity event proved to be another success. Detroit Tigers players served drinks to fans on June 5 at CJ Mahoney’s in Troy, MI, to raise money for the Detroit Tigers Foundation. The organization is an affiliate of Illitch Charities, which promotes youth baseball in the Greater Detroit area.
Tigers pitchers Joba Chamberlain and Joe Nathan led 10 of their teammates to sling drinks for tips, which also benefited Nathan’s Save It Foundation and Chamberlain’s Delivering Dreams Foundation. Joining the two relievers were 2013 American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello, Nick Castellanos, J.D. Martinez and more.
Detroit Sports 105.1 FM afternoon hosts Drew Lane and Marc Fellhauer broadcasted live from Tip A Tiger. Attendees had the option of bidding on autographed sports memorabilia, courtesy of Take 2 Authentics. More than $23,000 was raised for charity by the end of the night.
