Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger entered its 16th year in 2013, and in typical P&S fashion, the event was reinvented and more successful than ever. In this attempt to raise the bar, WMMR-FM partnered with Xfinity Live! Philadelphia, a new entertainment destination in the Sports Complex in South Philly, to host the event, with the goal of increasing the amount of food collected to benefit Philabundance in just five days, December 2 through 6.

WMMR-FM was able to pick up the Camp Out set-up, move it to the Sports Complex parking lot, rearrange some of the infrastructure, but keeping the overall vibe of the event. The tent size was increased to a whopping 50 x 80 feet, complete with lights, sounds and video monitors for fans to watch the show each morning.

The event started out slow, but finished strong, with droves of listeners coming out each day to donate food, bag by bag and truck by truck, resulting in record-setting amounts of food and money collected—in total, 772,461 pounds of food and more than $241,000. That’s 386 tons of food loaded onto 37 tractor-trailers and taken to the Philabundance warehouse to feed those in need. It shows the true power of a community coming together for the greater good of those less fortunate.
