John Fullam, John DeBella, and Charley Lake honor DeBella's 30 years

John DeBella has made a career of surprising guests, co-hosts and listeners during his thirty years on the radio in Philadelphia. This morning at 9am, as he wrapped up his show, it was DeBella who was being surprised.

Greater Media Philadelphia (WMGK’s parent company) Market Manager, John Fullam, and WMGK Program Director, Charley Lake, surprised the mustached morning host by presenting him with a mounted ‘golden microphone’ award. The award has a plaque with an inscription acknowledging DeBella’s 30 years of morning excellence.

“John DeBella has had an amazing 30 year run; entertaining the people of Philadelphia and giving back so often to the city he loves. We are proud of John and his extraordinary career and thrilled to have him here at WMGK and Greater Media,” said John Fullam.

One of the hallmarks of John DeBella’s thirty year radio career in Philadelphia has been his dedication to charity. Over the past five years, DeBella’s charitable efforts have accomplished the following: the John DeBella Veterans Radiothon has raised over $500,000 to help local veterans, the John DeBella Turkey Drop has put 35,000 holiday meals on the tables of needy families in the tri-state area, the John DeBella Masquerade Bash has put thousands of holiday toys into homes of the less fortunate, and his DeBella Dog Walk and DeBella’s Dogs initiatives have helped thousands of dogs find loving homes.

Last week the station announced that in celebration of John DeBella’s 30 years on-air in Philadelphia it would be bringing back one of his most celebrated events, The DeBella DeBall.

This year’s DeBella DeBall 30th Anniversary event will take place on Friday December 14th at Vie (600 N. Broad St, Philadelphia, PA). Guests at this invite only event, will be treated to music by Johnny O & The Classic Dogs of Love as well as special guests David Uosikkinen’s In The Pocket featuring The Hooters, Tommy Conwell and Richard Bush (of The A’s).

Those interested in winning tickets can listen to the John DeBella Show weekday mornings from 6a-9a or they can register to receive tickets on the station’s website, The 30th Anniversary DeBella DeBall is a ‘dress to impress’ event.
