Sherri Powers – Greater Media Detroit
September 12, 2012
While studying broadcasting in high school, Greater Media Detroit Engineer Sherri Powers thought she was on the path to becoming a video editor. Then one day she attend a seminar for broadcast engineering and the rest is history.
Sherri has been an engineer with Greater Media Detroit for over 14 years and actually began her radio career with Greater Media Detroit’s WCSX as an intern over 20 years ago.
One of the main things that Sherri loves about being a broadcast engineer is that every day brings something new and different. She shared with us that change is the one constant in engineering. Many of the changes in engineering have centered on computerization and that has Sherri always learning. She is always on the look out to learn new technologies and techniques to be on top of her game for Greater Media Detroit.
But don’t think that Sherri and all work and no play. There are several things that Sherri always makes time for: Her husband of 21 years Mike, traveling to Mexico and NASCAR. Not only do Sherri and Mike enjoy yearly trips to Mexico but they love getting away to their cabin on 40 acres in West Branch, Michigan as much as possible.
When it comes to NASCAR, Sherri is a diehard fan. She and Mike are season ticket holders at Bristol and makes sure to catch races at MIS. Who’s her favorite driver? Sherri is team Dale Earnhardt Jr. all the way.
Whether she’s on the road with the station for remote broadcasts or reprogramming something in the studios, Sherri approaches every situation with a smile and a can-do attitude. Sherri’s outlook is quite similar to her NASCAR hero Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was quoted as saying “I’m just going to keep driving and have a good time doing it.”
We’re glad that Sherri Powers is a member of the Greater Media Detroit team and proud that she is making Greater Media great day in and day out.
