101 WRIF Celebrates 40 Years

February 10, 2011

On Monday, February 14th, 101 WRIF will be celebrating 40 years of rocking the Detroit airwaves.  WRIF will be kicking off an anniversary celebration Friday, February 11th and will carry the on air party all through the weekend.  Leading up to the anniversary, listeners will be able to tune in to catch past interviews, ‘best of’ clips, along with current, on air personalities’ memories with the station.  All of this will lead into Monday the 14th, with the station commemorating the past 40 years all day long.  Throughout the day there will be live interviews, in studio performances, and several surprise studio guests.  Plus, immediately following the Drew and Mike Show, there will be a major concert announcement with regard to a WRIF 40th Anniversary concert.

WRIF first hit the airwaves on February 14th, 1971 and across the years has built its way up to being a Detroit institution.  Over the years many of the WRIF personalities have become associated with everything that is Detroit, and along with that hundreds of national artists and celebrities have taken time to be on the RIFF airwaves.  This celebration is a way for the station and its loyal listeners to look back and also to look forward to the parties to come.  “Forty years in the rock format is a landmark that very few stations are able to reach,” says Mark Pennington, WRIF Program Director. “We are looking forward to celebrating the station’s rich heritage by paying tribute to Detroit, our former and current staff, and loyal listeners.”

Tune in starting this Friday, February 11th. For more information go online to www.wrif.com.
