101 WRIF Announces the 1st Annual “Rocktoberfest”

August 31, 2010

101 WRIF is proud to announce the 1st Annual “Rocktoberfest” Event, taking place Saturday, September 25th from 2p-10p at Heritage Park in Taylor.

Rocktoberfest will be a celebration of the arrival of fall, featuring great food, the “Marines Man Card Village” with vendors and games, an Oktoberfest Beer Sampler, the WRIF Beer Pong Finals, a “Sports Den” to watch all your favorite sports and live music in the Biergarden throughout the day from The Polish Muslims, Cruizin’ Jupiter, Mustache Baby and Rockstar.

Leading up to Rocktoberfest, local Beer Pong* teams will have the chance to hone their skills at several pre-party tournaments that will take place at venues throughout Downriver. *Only water will be used to play the game. The 16 semi-finalist teams from these tournaments will go on to the finals, which will take place at Rocktoberfest. One team will win the grand prize – a trip for two to Las Vegas for the World Series of Beer Pong® Finals! For more info on pre-party tournaments, go to www.wrif.com.

Admission to this event is free. There will be a fee for parking. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit The Junior League World Series, The Friends of the Seniors and also the family of Officer Matthew Edwards, the Taylor Police officer who was recently killed in the line of duty.

In keeping with the spirit and tradition of the actual Oktoberfest held in Munich, Germany each September, a representative of the City of Taylor will honor the event by “tapping the first keg” to commence this year’s Rocktoberfest.

“We are very excited that WRIF has selected the City of Taylor to host their first annual Rocktoberfest event. This promises to be a fun and safe event for all who attend. We’re hoping to make it an annual event”, said Dennis McDermott, Deputy Director of Taylor Parks & Recreation.
