DeBella Turkey Drop Delivers Meals, Hope to local families

January 7, 2010

Tomorrow, Tuesday November 24, from 6am to 9am, Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK’s morning host, John DeBella, will broadcast live from Love Park (15th St.+ JFK Plaza ) and accept monetary and turkey donations during his “8th annual John DeBella Turkey Drop”. The John DeBella Turkey Drop is the largest, one day food gathering event in Philadelphia. Mayor Michael Nutter will be making an appearance at approximately 8:30am, during DeBella’s broadcast at Love Park.

This and every year, the “Turkey Drop” benefits City Team Ministries Philadelphia, an organization that provides food and services to less fortunate individuals, families, shelters and food groups in the tri-state area. The area’s continued economic struggle has caused an astounding increase in demand for City Team Ministries’ services. Last year, the number of meals provided through emergency food boxes had increased from 12,000 to 18,000. This year, that number has already exceeded 20,000 and they still have 2 months to go.

In addition to Love Park, members of the MGK on-air staff will be spread around the tri-state area accepting donations at 8 Genuardi’s supermarket locations from 6am to 10am. (DeBella’s broadcast ends at 9am, but MGK staff will accept donations until 10am)
The following will be accepted at all donation locations: frozen turkeys, “free turkey” coupons from any super market chain, cash donations, checks made out to City Team Ministries. No food other than turkeys can be accepted. Interested listeners can make a secure, tax deductable monetary donation online by going to the station’s website, www.wmgk.com. Online donations will be accepted until November 30.
